State of the Art Leisure Centre for North Norfolk

The long awaited Reef Leisure Centre in Sheringham will open its doors to the public on Tuesday 30th November, ready to welcome the public to use the pool, gym and studios for the first time.

The facility, which has been built to be accessible to all, has something for everyone to enjoy.

Incorporating a six-lane, 25m main pool built to Sport England’s high standards it also supports a range of aquatic activities from competitive swimming events to inflatable play sessions for children.

The13m learner pool has a moving floor allowing the water depth to be changed for different activities for different user groups such as swimming lessons, water confidence and toddler sessions and aqua fit exercise classes.

The pool is accessible via shallow steps with an assisting handrail and a Poolpod for pool users who require a wheelchair. The Poolpod is supported by a wheelchair storage zone near the Changing Places facility and a dedicated pool-side wheelchair for disabled users to transfer to, which is compatible with the Poolpod.

As part of the Councils green agenda, alongside the use of conventional heating methods, water at The Reef will be heated through solar thermal energy and so reduce the reliance on gas. Electric Vehicle Charge Points haver been provided in the car park.

For gym-users, the upper floor offers a variety of activities with a 60-station health and fitness suite, including a range of exercise machines and free weights. The 200 sqm dance and activities studio, offers opportunities for group exercise classes and studio sessions.

In the 23 station virtual cycling studio, users can take part in sessions around the world, with a virtual instructor leading the classes.

Cllr. Virginia Gay, portfolio holder for Leisure, Culture and Wellbeing said:

“Not so very long ago, in the summer of 2019, North Norfolk District Council made the decision to carry on with the construction of a new leisure centre for our District.

We wanted to make something truly special, the likes of which North Norfolk has never had before, and now here we are, about to open, about to welcome our first visitors to The Reef.

The Reef is the largest leisure offering in North Norfolk and represents an investment of £11m from North Norfolk District Council, alongside a grant of £1m from Sports England and the Lottery Fund.

The flagship project will improve the health and wellbeing of residents in North Norfolk for years to come, providing services and support which may not be readily available in the District.
