Liberal Democrats call for tax relief for public transport

Norfolk Liberal Democrats call for the government to make public transport cheaper across Norfolk through the introduction of a Tax Relief scheme for season tickets. The idea behind the policy is to make a saving for passengers whilst actively encouraging people to reinvest in public transport.

Bus interiorThe scheme would be on seasonal travel tickets throughout the public transport network in Norfolk. Passengers would save hundreds of pounds a year.

Councillor Brian Watkins, Group spokesperson said “Public transport is a critical part of the Norfolk economy and we need to encourage people back onto public transport following the pandemic crisis. Tax relief for public transport is a great way for workers and businesses to cooperate.”

“The scheme would not only put money directly back into hard working people’s pockets it also gives the economy a much needed boost and improves access to jobs – all with one simple idea.”

“With the cost of living a key concern for so many people, it will help those who use public transport frequently, especially those low income workers for whom such extra money could help lift them out of the poverty that the low wage Norfolk economy creates.”
